To get an idea of how much the ocean is gaining ground, check out <b><a href="http://gramasa.free.fr/images/stories/extrait%20ar47.jpg" rel="nofollow">this detail from a GRAMASA map of the Gaillouneys battery</a></b>, which shows the shoreline as it was in 1950, 1968 and 2005. Meanwhile, the dunes in that area are advancing inland - and by no means is this a slow process.
