There's a nice white dome on one of them, is it an observatory now? My wife who is French and has been brought up in the region is probably the worst tour guide in history (god love her :)).

She begun telling me that these were ancient towers... I was happy to inform her (thanks to this article) that they were probably windmills!

Goes to show the English sometimes know more about France than the French!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12365980648428783949noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4990702592078012308.post-57852907696380149592013-01-30T14:09:14.801+01:002013-01-30T14:09:14.801+01:00Fair point although that only applies to the Sunda...Fair point although that only applies to the Sunday afternoon demos. The windmill can still function by wind power alone but using electricity means it will function regardless of whether there's any wind or not, saves on the time-consuming task of kitting out the sails (which would take the best part of the afternoon) and means no need to rotate the roof. The sails remain in the same cordoned-off zone thus avoiding ugly cases of people's heads being chopped off.

It's all in all a great initiative, very much enjoyed visiting the place!
